Vulcan grounded after a booster anomaly; Amazon's first Vulcan mission has no date
A solid rocket booster underperformed on Vulcan's USSF-87 launch for the US Space Force on 12 February 2026 (the payload still reached its orbit), and ULA has not flown Vulcan since. Vulcan is the rocket for 38 of Amazon's launches; in July ULA told SpacePolicyOnline the next Amazon Leo launch would be on Vulcan but its date was uncertain. In early October Amazon Leo's head told Ars Technica the first Vulcan launch was 'weeks away' (as reported by Light Reading); neither Amazon nor ULA has announced a date.

Amazon's 50% deadline passes with about 392 of 1,616 satellites
The first-generation license required 1,616 satellites in orbit and operating by 30 July 2026. About 392 were in orbit that day (24% of the requirement). Under the June waiver, the license continues, satellites launched afterwards temporarily lose priority, and, under DA 26-553, Amazon must forfeit its surety bond (no FCC record of the forfeiture itself was found).
Amazon Leo is roughly a quarter of the way to its first FCC target and has three years to reach 3,232.

Amazon files for a 5,105-satellite phone-to-satellite system
Amazon said it had applied to the FCC for an Amazon Leo direct-to-device system of up to 5,105 satellites, using spectrum from its planned Globalstar purchase, with deployment from 2028.
This is about phones, not home internet; it does not change when Amazon Leo home service arrives.

FCC overhauls satellite licensing, including what happens after a missed deadline
The FCC adopted a new 'part 100' framework. Systems in processing rounds keep 6-year (50%) and 9-year (100%) milestones, but missing the 50% milestone now moves a system to a later processing-round year instead of capping it. Existing licensees may opt in.
General rule change, not an Amazon decision; it follows the same idea as Amazon's June waiver, so a missed milestone no longer threatens a half-built network.

FCC grants Amazon blanket licences to operate Leo user terminals in the US
The FCC's Space Bureau granted Kuiper Systems two blanket earth-station licences covering the US and its possessions: one for fixed user terminals (E260062) and one for earth stations in motion (E260060). On 2026-08-19 it granted modifications that list three Kuiper terminal antenna types (0.158 m, 0.185 m and 0.366 m) for fixed use and add an in-motion blanket covering US territorial waters.
These are the station licences Amazon needs to run customer terminals on its network in the US. They are not the separate FCC equipment authorization that Amazon's own site says its devices still lack before they can be sold or leased, so they do not mean home service or sales have started.

FCC waives Amazon's July 2026 deadline, with conditions
Instead of extending the deadline, the FCC's Space Bureau waived the rule that would have capped Amazon's license at the satellites in orbit on 30 July 2026. Satellites launched after that date temporarily lose interference priority until 30 March 2028 (or 30 October 2027 with a certification, or until half the constellation is up), Amazon must forfeit its surety bond if it misses the 30 July 2026 milestone (it did; no FCC record of the forfeiture itself was found), and the 30 July 2029 deadline for all 3,232 stands.
Amazon can keep building the full network, so a missed deadline does not end Amazon Leo; the FCC also noted SpaceX is the only company serving US consumers from low orbit.

FCC approves Amazon's second-generation and polar systems: 4,504 more satellites
The FCC's Space Bureau authorized a Gen2 system of 3,212 satellites (590, 610 and 630 km) and a Polar system of 1,292 satellites (600, 620 and 650 km at 66 to 82 degrees), plus extra Ka- and V-band frequencies. Half of each must be in orbit by 10 February 2032 and all by 10 February 2035.
Polar shells are what would let Amazon Leo reach high-latitude places such as most of Alaska, but that coverage is years away.

Amazon asks the FCC for two more years to reach half its constellation
With 180 satellites in orbit, Amazon asked the FCC to move its 30 July 2026 deadline for 1,616 satellites to 30 July 2028, or to waive it. It projected about 700 satellites by July 2026, citing late rockets. SpaceX opposed.
Amazon's own forecast of about 700 satellites by July 2026 was missed by roughly 300, a sign its schedules depend on rockets it does not control.

The CSV, column by column
The full log holds every year's rows under CC BY 4.0. Its columns:
id- Stable row id; it never changes, even when a row is corrected.
date- Event date, YYYY-MM-DD. When the source only gives a month or quarter, this is the first day of it (see date_precision).
date_precision- How precise the date is: day, month, quarter or year.
category- One of: launch, regulatory (FCC), service, product, company, partnership (business deals), bead, starlink-context.
network- amazon_leo, or starlink for the starlink-context rows, which are context only and not Amazon Leo news.
title- One-line summary of the event.
status- How sure the row is: confirmed (the company or the FCC says so), announced, planned, reported (press or tracker only), unconfirmed, not-announced, derived (our calculation) or conflict.
value- The row's main figure or short statement as recorded (for example satellites launched). Empty when nothing is published.
unit- Unit of value, when it has one.
what_happened- What happened, in plain words.
why_it_matters- What it changes, if anything, for a US household.
source_url- The primary source we cite for the row.
source_type- Whether the cited source is the company or regulator itself (Amazon, the FCC, a launch provider about its own launch) or a secondary source (press, trackers).
verified_at- The date we last checked the row against its source, YYYY-MM-DD.
How these facts were checked
Every row comes from our dated research file and names its primary source: Amazon's own pages, FCC documents, or the launch provider about its own launch. Rows from the press carry a "Reported" label, and each row shows the day its source was read. Starlink rows are context only. Read the editorial policy.
FCC orders and Census data files are fixed public records whose text can't change, so the "Facts checked" date leaves them out. We read them on Oct 25, 2026; each one is listed at the foot of the page.
