Choosing now, in brief · as of

Choosing Starlink now means paying whatever starlink.com quotes at your address, plus any kit fees and the first month in full, while Amazon Leo still has no US home price (Not announced) or start date (Not announced). Order as a new US customer through a referral link and Starlink adds $100 of credit on your second monthly invoice. Its terms don't settle whether a rented kit counts.

What does picking Starlink now cost, next to waiting for Amazon Leo?

Checked Nov 3, 2026: of the two networks, only Starlink takes orders from US households. Your address sets its monthly price, and starlink.com shows that price, the kit terms and any one-time demand surcharge before you pay. Amazon Leo has published no US home price or start date, so waiting costs nothing up front but leaves the gap in your service open for an unknown time. The order box further down lists Starlink's dated national-list levels.

Six steps from this page to the credit

All but the last happen before you pay. The one that trips people up is the fourth: the order page itself says whether the referral is on.

  1. Decide first

The link suits people who need internet now and will keep it. Not sure? Take the buy-or-wait check.

  2. Open the referral link

Nothing to type: the code is inside the link. Use a web browser rather than the Starlink app.

  3. Enter your address

starlink.com then quotes your monthly price, the kit terms and any one-time demand surcharge.

  4. Look for “Referral Code Applied”

That banner sits on the order page before payment. If it reports the referral missing, stop and read the reason.

  5. Finish in the same tab

The first month is billed in full, and a referral can’t be attached once the order is placed.

  6. $100 on invoice two

Once you’ve paid two monthly bills on high-speed service, as account credit unless you set up cash.

Credit timing per Starlink's help center: no sooner than 60 days after activation, and it depends on country, settings and an identity check.

About the fifth step: when we went through starlink.com's page code on Oct 21, 2026, the referral lived in one browser tab, the one the link opened. That is our inference from the code, not a policy Starlink states, so finishing the order in that tab is the safe course.

Who qualifies

  • First-time customers only. Anyone who has held a Starlink account before is excluded, returning customers included.
  • A US service address. Starlink's terms require the referrer's country, and this site's link is for US addresses.
  • An eligible plan. Starlink's list covers its Residential and Roam plans (8 names in all); Business, Priority and Enterprise plans aren't on it.
  • Placed on starlink.com, through the link. Only sign-ups on starlink.com earn it: store and reseller kits and transferred accounts don't.
  • A personal account. Business, Enterprise and Priority accounts are left out of the program.
  • Rented kits: not settled. The terms describe buying both the kit and the plan directly on starlink.com, yet every Residential entry on Starlink’s national list was a rental on Nov 3, 2026, and nothing in them says whether a rented kit counts (unverified Confirmed). Until Starlink answers in writing, don't count on the credit for a rented kit.

What doesn't count

Starlink's help center says a referral is recorded only for an order placed on starlink.com through the link, and it can't be attached afterwards. That rules out:

  • Kits from stores and marketplaces. Starlink's US list names 16 retail chains: big-box and online sellers such as Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon, and farm, outdoor and boating stores such as Tractor Supply, Bass Pro Shops and West Marine.
  • A secondhand kit, one left in a home you move into, or an account transfer.
  • Ordering first and looking for a link afterwards, or using a second person's link.
  • Business, Enterprise and Priority accounts.

Who it isn't for

Skip the link if…

  • You’d switch to Amazon Leo the week it opens for US homes. It has no US date or price yet: see the launch-date page.
  • You need internet for one season, one trip or a short job.
  • You’d pause service (Standby) between trips or seasons. Starlink’s terms expect people they reward to stay subscribed.
  • You already have, or had, a Starlink account.
  • You’re ordering for a business.
  • The monthly price is a stretch for your budget.

Not sure? The buy-or-wait check sorts it out in a minute.

When does the $100 credit arrive, and in what form?

Per Starlink's referral terms, read on Nov 3, 2026, the credit is applied to your second monthly subscription invoice, after two complete billing cycles of continuous high-speed service; Standby time doesn't count. Its help center adds that day 60 after activation is the soonest it can show up. It comes as account credit unless you set up cash through Stripe, in a web browser rather than the app. Each side of a referral picks cash or credit for itself.

Is the Starlink referral reward a discount?

No. Under the terms we read on Nov 3, 2026, nothing comes off the order: you pay whatever starlink.com quotes at your address, any one-time fees and the first month, exactly as a new customer without a link would. The credit follows later, on the second monthly invoice. A page promising money off a Starlink kit through a referral describes something Starlink doesn't offer; the order page is the only place that shows your price.

The fine print, question by question

How these facts were checked

Every rule on this page comes from Starlink's US referral terms (DOC-1882-84808-83) and its help article on referral rewards, re-read on Nov 3, 2026 and listed at the foot of the page with the date each was checked. Amazon Leo's status comes from Amazon's own pages. The order-page banner wording (“Referral Code Applied”, “Referral Code Not Applied”) comes from the code of starlink.com's order page, read on Nov 3, 2026; the same-tab note is our reading of that code on Oct 21, 2026, not a rule Starlink publishes. Starlink sets the reward and can change or end the program; the amount in your Starlink account is the one that counts. Starlink vs Leo is run independently of SpaceX and Starlink.
